Financial support when you are not able to work due to illness or injury
Our disability pension covers both temporary or permanent disability. If your absence from work is a result of an occupational injury, you may also be entitled to occupational injury compensation.
You may be entitled to disability pension if:
- Illness or injury has caused at least 20 percent decrease in your normal income.
- You are on at least 50 per cent sick leave and have applied for work clearance allowance (AAP) or disability benefit from NAV.
- If your illness is caused by an occupational injury, you should check if you also are entitled to occupational injury compensation.

Your rights while on sick leave
Our benefit is called disability pension both for short term and permanent support. In general, our pension replaces or adds to sick leave benefits from your employer or NAV after one year. See the overview.
PARTIAL SICK LEAVE / DISABLED
If you are less than 20 per cent on partial sick leave or disabled, you are not eligible for disability pension from SPK or benefits / allowance from NAV.
PARTIAL SICK LEAVE / DISABLED
If you are between 20 and 50 per cent on partial sick leave or disabled, you are welcome to apply for disability pension from SPK, regardless of receiving benefits from NAV or not.
PARTIAL SICK LEAVE / DISABLED
If you are 50 percent disabled or more, you can apply for a disability pension from SPK. This is paid in addition to work clearance allowance (AAP) or a disability benefit from NAV.
How to apply for disability pension:
- If you are 50 per cent disabled or more, you first need to apply for work assessment allowance (AAP) or disability benefit from NAV. If you are less than 50 percent disabled, jump straight to point 2.
- Ask your employer to submit a pension notification to SPK at latest 2 months before your sick leave benefit expires.
- Log in to fill in the application for disability pension (in Norwegian).
- When applying, you will be asked to attach a doctor's statement. If so, please ask your doctor to issue the form and send it to us by regular mail.
- We process your application and get in touch with you upon completion. You can follow the status of your application by logging in to spk.no.
- If your application is approved, the pension will be paid on the 20th of each month. NAV pays on our behalf.
