Pharmacy scheme

Who are members?

The Pension Scheme for the Pharmacy Sector is a statutory occupational pension scheme that includes more than 15,000 members throughout the pharmacy sector.

The Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK) administers the pension scheme on behalf of the Ministry of Labor, in accordance with the law of June 26, 1953, with subsequent amendments.

All pharmacies in the country

The law covers pharmacists and employees in pharmacies. The law includes personnel at all pharmacies in the country. This also applies to those who are hired where there is ownership interest or a similar connection between the pharmacy and the operating company.

In addition to employees in pharmacies and pharmacists, the ministry may decide that employees in other positions related to pharmacy may become members.

Members receiving pensions

If you work in a pharmacy as an old-age pensioner and are paid ordinary hourly wages, the old-age pension from POA will be reduced. How much the pension is reduced depends on how much you work. The minimum limit for membership ceased on 01.01.2025 for members born in 1965 or after.

Exception: The minimum limit of 20 per cent still applies to pensioners born up to and including 1964 and who return to work. This means that those receiving an old-age pension can work in a position up to 20 per cent (19.99 per cent) without the pension being reduced.

Employees with partial disability pensions have both the right and the obligation to be members.

Exceptions or exemptions from membership obligation

Individuals who perform practical service at a pharmacy to qualify for the pharmacy exam are exempt from the pension scheme.

The pension scheme may exempt an employee from membership if they are in another occupational pension scheme or if there are other specific reasons for exemption.
