Financial support when you are not able to work due to illness or injury
Our disability pension covers both temporary or permanent disability. If your absence from work is a result of an occupational injury, you may also be entitled to occupational injury compensation.
You may be entitled to a disability pension if any of the following applies to you:
- Illness or injury has led to at least 20 percent reduction in your regular income.
- You are on at least 50 percent sick leave and have applied for work clearance allowance (AAP) or disability benefits from Nav.
Should your illness be the result of an occupational injury, you could also be entitled to an occupational injury compensation.

Your rights while on sick leave
Our disability pension covers both temporary, partial and permanent disability. The pension from SPK is usually starts after one year's sick leave.
Please note that our disability pension and Nav's disability benefits have different conditions.
PARTIAL SICK LEAVE / DISABLED
If the decrease in your normal income is less than 20 percent, you are not entitled to disability pension from SPK.
PARTIAL SICK LEAVE / DISABLED
If the decrease in you regular income is between 20 and 50 percent, you might be entitled to a disability pension from SPK. This applies even if you are not entitled to any disability benefits or work assessment allowance (AAP) from Nav.
We encourage you to contact with Nav, as you might be entitled to benefits even if you are on less than 50 percent on sick leave.
Please note that a graded disability pension from SPK may result in a future lower retirement pension from Nav.
PARTIAL SICK LEAVE / DISABLED
If the decrease in your regular income exceeds 50 percent, you might be entitled to a disability pension from SPK. The pension from us is paid in addition to AAP or disability benefit from Nav.
How to apply for disability pension:
- If you are 50 percent disabled or more, you need to apply for work assessment allowance (AAP) or disability benefit from Nav first. If you are less than 50 percent disabled, this does not apply.
- Ask your employer to submit a pension notification to SPK at latest 2 months before your sick leave benefit expires.
- Log in to fill in the application for disability pension (in Norwegian).
- As part of the application process, you might be required to attach a doctor's statement. If so, please ask your doctor to issue the form and send it to us by regular mail.
- We process your application and notify upon completion. Please track the status of your application by logging in to spk.no.
- If your application is approved, your pension is paid by Nav on our behalf on the 20th of each month.
