Retirement pension for former members
If you change jobs and begin to work for an employer that doesn’t have an occupational pension with us, you are no longer a member. You may, however, still be entitled to retirement pension from us, but you will no longer be entitled to a public contractual pension (AFP).
When you change jobs
If you leave a job with pension scheme in SPK, your pension rights stay in the scheme.
If you change jobs within the public sector in Norway
Most employers in the state, municipalities, health trusts and research / education have a public occupational pension scheme that is covered by the transfer agreement. This transfer agreement makes sure that you keep paying in and earning into the same scheme.
If you have been a member of several public occupational pension schemes in Norway during your working life, the scheme you were last a member of calculates and pays out the pension.
If you start working in the private sector
Your pension rights in SPK stay in the scheme and is paid out when you retire if you meet the requirements (see below).
Work outside of Norway
Membership in a state occupational pension in a EU/EEA country, can count towards your membership time with us. Read more about working abroad
No application necessary
If you have pension entitlements with us, we will automatically check if you are eligible for a pension as you approach retirement age. We will notify you of this by email.
If you are entitled to a pension, it will be paid automatically. If we need more information or you need to take any action before we can pay out your pension, we will inform you.
You should know that….
- your pension as a former member is less than you would have received if you were a member of a public occupational pension scheme at the time of retirement.
- if you change jobs and leave the public sector, you are not entitled to AFP (contractual pension).
- your pension rights before you retire is regulated by the average wage growth in Norway. This means that your pension rights with us will maintain value over time.
