More than just pension
As a public employee, you have one of the best pension schemes available. In addition to retirement pension, our scheme also provides financial security should you be prevented from working due to illness or injury. Through the current pension scheme, your family is entitled to financial support when you pass away. Our mortgage scheme offers housing loans with low interest rates. We also provide occupational injury insurance for state employees.
Your benefits as a member of the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK)
Securing yourself
Should you suffer a work-related illness you may be entitled to a disability pension, which covers both temporary or permanent disability. Our occupational injury insurance covers accidents or injuries occurring at work from your first working day.
Securing your family
Your spouse, partner or children may have the right to dependent's pension for spouses and children when you pass away. Should death occur before your retirement starts, your family may be entitled to a group life insurance payment as well.
Housing loan with low interest rates
SPK’s housing loan is a membership benefit which provides one of the market's lowest interest rates.
Lifelong retirement pensions
As a member, you are entitled to a favourable retirement pension and contractual early retirement (AFP). Both retirement pensions are in form of lifelong payments.
Disability pension in case of illness
In case of reduced income due to illness, you may have the right to a disability pension as a compensation for income loss. Our disability pension covers both permanent and temporary illness.
The disability pension provides payments as an addition to payments from the National Insurance Scheme (NAV).
Occupational injury insurance
As a state employee, you are covered against injury caused by an accident at work or a work-related illness. One of the conditions is to determine a permanent loss of income due to the accident or the illness.
Please not that most teachers employed by other public employers such as a municipality or a county, have other insurance providers than SPK.
Financial support for dependants
Your spouse, registered partner and children have a right to dependants’ pension upon a member’s death to compensate for lost family income. Please note that although cohabitants are not entitled to dependants’ pension, they might have a right to a payment from the group life insurance.

The group life insurance is a one-time payment to your dependants should you pass away before retirement. The payment is issued to your spouse or your cohabitant, effective automatically shortly after a member’s death. The group life insurance is valid 24 hours a day, regardless of time and cause of death.
All these benefits for only two percent
To cover your membership in SPK, a two-percent amount of your income is deducted from your salary each month. In addition, your employer pays up to 16-20 percent premium on your behalf. Therefore, the SPK membership is a favourable benefit for public employees in Norway.
