About us
The Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (Statens pensjonskasse or SPK) is Norway’s main provider of public occupational pensions for employees in the public sector. We also offer housing loans and insurance schemes to members, and financial support to dependants.
What we do
SPK manages occupational pensions for current and former employees in government institutions, higher education (teachers), research institutions, pharmacies and other organizations connected to the public sector.
We are an organization under the Norwegian Department for Employment and Inclusion and our mandate is set by the Norwegian parliament. We administer pensions to the value of 647 billion Norwegian kroner (NOK) for around 1.300 organizations and more than 1.1 million current and former employees in the public sector. The SPK scheme is a pay-as-you-go system financed by contributions from employees, employers, and the Norwegian state.

Who are our members?
Membership of SPK is obligatory for government institutions and their employees.
Other organizations in the public sector (for example state owned companies) may choose to join SPK. The employees of those companies then also become members of SPK.
People who were previously employed for more than three years in an organization that was a member of SPK retain their accumulated pension entitlements. This is known as “deferred pension.”

More than 200 years of history
Our history can be traced back to 1814, when SPK’s predecessor was established under the name "Den almindelige norske enkekasse" (a pension fund for widows). In 1917 Statens pensjonskasse (The Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund) was established, and we celebrated our 100th year of operation under that name in 2017.
