Main features of your pension:

  • You can usually start drawing your retirement pension from the month after you turn 67.

  • Your pension accruals are based on salary up to 12 G, which amounts to 1.48 million NOK as per 2024).
  • If you have had higher salaries during your earlier career, such salaries may be included in the calculation of your pension base.
  • Full accrual means 30 years in a 100 percent position with membership in a state occupational pension scheme.

Changes for year cohorts

  • If you were born in 1958 or earlier, you have an individual guarantee that ensures you 66 percent of your pension base before life expectancy adjustment, provided that you apply for a pension from the national insurance scheme (NAV) at the same time and have full accrual.
  • If you were born between 1959 and 1962, you also have an individual guarantee in principle, but this is reduced by 10 percent year by year. The guarantee is also reduced if you had less than 30 years of accrual before 01.01.2011.

Special retirement age and AFP

Are you approaching retirement age but would like to continue working after turning 67? If so, please note that the occupational pension from SPK may be reduced after a certain period due to coordination with the national insurance scheme (NAV).

You can have employment income even after you have retired and begun to recieve a retirement pension, but be aware that income from a position with membership in a state occupational pension scheme will reduce your occupational pension from us.

This is how retirement pension is calculated for different year cohorts

The rules for calculating state retirement pension have undergone several changes over the years. Below is an overview of the main differences in retirement pension for those born in 1962 or earlier.

Born in 1958 or earlier

If you were born in these years, you have an individual guarantee, which means that you receive 66 percent of your final salary as a retirement pension, provided that you have full accrual and draw both your occupational pension and retirement pension from the national insurance scheme (NAV) at the same time. The proportion of this retirement pension that comes as an occupational pension from the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK) and the proportion that comes from the national insurance scheme is regulated by a coordination framework.

Born between 1959 and 1962

For those born in these years, we calculate an individual guarantee in principle in the same way as above, but for these cohorts, the guarantee supplement is reduced by 10 percent each year, meaning that you are not guaranteed 66 percent of your final salary in pension. This means that the 1959 cohort will receive 90 percent, and the 1962 cohort will only receive 60 percent of the guarantee supplement. The guarantee supplement is also reduced if members had less than 30 years of accrual before 01.01.2011.
